Shea and Matt, from the US, wanted an small symbolic ceremony in beautiful Italy, somewhere intimate and authentic. When they discovered Puglia, a southern region of Italy still 'unknown' to many foreigners, it was love at first sight.
Puglia is famous for its masserie, traditional white stone farmhouses that have been reconverted into event venues. Masseria San Paolo Grande is one of these jewels in the Apulian countryside, just a stone-throw from Ostuni, known as the 'white city'.
It offers peace and tranquillity surrounded by nature and incredible local cuisine. If you love to chill by the pool side with only the sound of the buzzing cicadas to keep you company whilst munching on local focaccia, then you will find this place is pretty close to paradise.
Shea and Matt wanted the intimate ceremony to be just them and their parents, and the venue was more than happy to cater for the little group. The ceremony was held in front of the small chapel on the back of the property and it was absolutely breath-taking.
The ceremony was incredibly emotional and included a whine ritual as well as a traditional element of grass breaking at the end. The masseria's dogs decided to interrupt the couple mid-ceremony and sit on the bride's dress but everyone was amused as the couple has a puppy of their own back home - so if anything, it was their way to greet them!
Shea and Matt also wanted to explore beautiful Ostuni which is just a short drive away, and get some portraits taken to remember their experience there. Ostuni's white walls and unique architecture as well as the many succulent plants and cacti scattered across the streets, make for an excellent and inimitable backdrop for wedding photos.
In the evening, everyone celebrated with plenty of prosecco, delicious local food prepared by the masseria's chefs and a wonderful millefoglie cake topped with berries. What else could you ask for? This is the magic of Italy.
